We are at the next stage of the World Series and one question that comes to mind is.... Is the World series an additional meal ticket for the seeded players selected by the PDC?
There is a clear argument that an open draw for the world series should be applied, but this will not happen in the near future, and will provide few betting opportunities until at least the second round for us punters.
The draw
First Round Draw & Tournament Draw Bracket
Michael van Gerwen (1) v Chikara Fujimori
Stephen Bunting (8) v Shintaro Inoue
Peter Wright (5) v Haruki Muramatsu
Adrian Lewis (4) v Sho Katsumi
Phil Taylor (2) v Masumi Chino
Raymond van Barneveld (7) v Katsuya Aiba
James Wade (6) v Morihiro Hashimoto
Gary Anderson (3) v Yuki Yamada
First Round - Best of 11 legs
Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, Final - Best of 15 legs
We gave out some advice on Friday night about the best recommended bets for handicap bettors on the eight matches.
Now the bookmaker that had those odds took them down!
Why? They were all in excess of 100% books, with the main bookie 365 carrying in excess of 130% books on correct scores. The prices on Bet365 are very unattractive, with Bet365 and Marathonbet offering just 27/100 for all right participants to proceed with a mouthwatering 7463181725/1 odds on all eight non seeds winning. Yes it wont happen, and those sort of odds would exceed maximum payout regulations. Just saying, it will not happen, but what if?
Will the bookies be staring down at possible upsets? At 27/100 for all eight to proceed, they would love just one to upset, but cannot see it myself, and that is not because of the odds for all eight. I did see one price on Marathonbet, which compilers soon changed and that was Lewis -3.5 at 4/5. This has gone and they replaced with -4.5 legs on Lewis at 11/10. Marathon offer just two -3.5 handicap and this is 4/5 but on Peter Wright to beat Maramatsu and Wade to beat Hashimoto, both we have seen on the big stage in the past including more recently at the World Championship and World Cup. Backing all players on the handicap will pay a more attractive 40307/50 - equating to just over 80/1 with a £1 stake paying £81.61 with MArathonbet. The same handicap at 365 with a £1 stake pays just £71.09 so some clear pricing differences!
Just to remind you, the UK is NOT showing live coverage, so check ITV 4 listings, as it will be screened after 18:00 on Saturday and Sunday!
If i was forced to give a bet though, id consider the double of Lewis and MVG -4.5 on their handicaps.
£10 pays £33.39 with Marathonbet and £31.15 at Bet365
