Event start date: January 7th 2017
This time last year we posted out Deta Hedman to win the Women's championship each way and looked great cruising to the final. However, Deta failed at the final hurdle and choked in the final to lose out to Trina Gulliver.
Hedman will have Australian Hammond in a seeded quarter final with Anastacia Dobromyslova in a possible semi final.
Ana has won three events on the circuit this year including the gold cup and has made many quarter and semi finals in 2016 and is a 14/1 shot with Betstars, Bwin and Marathonbet. Deta is 4/1 second favourite with Ashton backed into 13/8 with Betstars from 7/4. Ashton, has the resilience and scoring power and has the upcoming Fallon Sherrock in her way who is as short as 100/30 but more realistically 5/1 with Bwin. There is something about Sherrock that we saw 2 years ago, and has not shaken this off since seeing her toe the oche. Too many loose darts and a less than natural throwing rhythm puts us off the 5/1. Aileen de Graff has impressed us over time, but can struggle on the doubles which poses a swerve.
We do like Ashton to win the title again. We watched her hit the highest women's average of all time at the BDO World Trophy at the end of May. We do think Ana has mileage in her game and is a worthy each way contender.
Can Gulliver defend her title? Trina is past her best and took the chances to win the title. 2016 at best has made semi finals and may attract some each way 25/1 backers.
We cannot look past Ashton, who we took at 7/4, but 13/8 still represents a play just about, but with ana as a saver is the way we are going.
Be aware of bookmakers who are placing at 1/3 the odds. Should be 1/2 the odds.
Recommendations:
Ashton to win the BDO Women's Championship - 13/8 5 pts Betstars and Boylesports
Saver:
Anastacia Dobromyslova - 14/1 EW with Marathonbet 1pt
