An entertaining opening night, which saw all but three legs maximum played, and saw the opening two games decided on the final leg. Wins for Wade, Barney, Taylor and Wright saw them take an early advantage whereas Anderson and MVG had to settle for a draw!
With Peter Wright setting the standard at the UK Open qualifiers last weekend, including a rare victory over MVG and the pair square off again with Snakebite a BIG 6/1 and will throw first. MVG’s post UK Open tweets were confusing in the case that many observations on what they meant.
A brief recap on the stats from week one:
Legs played: 57/60
Total 180s – 29
High Checkout – 160 (Dave Chisnall)
Highest average on the night – 107.94 (MVG)
Most 180s – Dave Chisnall (5)
Thursday’s fixtures:
Lewis Vs Chisnall – 6/5 - 7/2 – 19/10 (Head to Head – 10-1-14)
Wade Vs Taylor – 14/5 – 4/1 – 16/19 (Head to Head – 12-5-50)
Klaasen Vs Anderson – 11/2 – 5/1 – 4/9 (Head to Head - 6-0-12)
Wright Vs MVG – 6/1 – 11/2 – 7/19 (Head to Head – 9-1-42)
Huybrechts Vs Barney – 16/5 – 4/1 – 3/4 (Head to Head – 9-0-2)
Please note the player named on the left will throw first and odds above have the draw price in the middle and odds correct at time of writing.
Lewis and Chisnall will square off in the opener where Chisnall has won the last four meetings, but the omen on Lewis is on that his last head to head victory was at the same meeting twelve months ago. Jackpot is 6/5 with Boylesports, Coral and Betfair, with Chisnall at 19/10 with Betbright and the draw at 7/2 with BetVictor. The pair last year saw Lewis scream into a back to back win which saw nine maximums in the game this time last year. Three of the four victories by Chisnall were in the World Series overseas with the other in the
World Series of Darts finals in November.
Lewis made the final of one of the UK Open qualifiers over the last weekend, losing out to Peter Wright, who went on to win two of the three events. Lewis certainly looked in good shape on the day and will be considered to win at 6/5, on the basis he is on throw first. Chisnall is BIG at 19/10 to upset jackpot and either losing will see their Premier League get off to a negative start. I did like the total maximums at fewer than eight, which was even money with Hills. However at the time of writing their odds have switched and the best price is now 5/6 with Betway. On the individual lines, Skybet have Lewis well covered on his line, however, Chisnall to get five or more maximums in the game can be backed at 5/4, whereas the under line is 8/11 with Skybet. I am favoured to the NO 180 in the first leg and 188bet are 10/11 that no maximum is landed in the first leg.
In game two James Wade will play Phil Taylor where Taylor won both games last season and see a similar result at 16/19 with 188bet.
The last ten has seen Taylor win six and lose four. Wade scrapped to a 7-5 victory last week in an excellent start to the campaign, whereas Taylor had a seemingly smoother route beating Chisnall by a margin of four legs.
I see Taylor being well rested delivering a back to back win, and at 16/19 with 188bet is acceptable enough for us.
Game three Klaasen faces off against Anderson in a game where the former two-time champion Anderson looks to make it a ninth straight win over the Cobra which dates back to May 2013 and is a shade under 1/2 to win the game.
Anderson battled to a draw with MVG last week with a 103 average and has elevated into a great league of his own chasing MVG’s supremacy. One bet I have found on this game which is taken at 8/11 is for Klaasen to hit fewer than four maximums at 8/11 with Hills and as short as 4/7 elsewhere.
Game four has MVG face off with Wright where Snakebite beat MVG at a floor event streamed beating the World number one 6-4 in a thriller. MVG stated after the event he was great to qualify but was annoyed he had not won. Some presume the gap between some games were longer than usual, but without speculating on this we move on. With market prices covered in places, all but one firm are odds on fewer than eight maximums with Bwin at 6/5.
The last game is Huybrechts Vs Barney where the head to head favours the Belgian, who has won nine out of the last eleven games and is BIG at 3/1 to upset the former five time world champion. I suspect Barney will win this, but without seeing much of the Belgian chucker recently this game could go either way.
Recommendations:
Lewis/Chisnall – first leg 180 NO – 5/6 general 1pt
Taylor to beat Wade – 16/19 188bet 3pts
Klaasen – Under 3.5 180s – 8/11 Hills 2pts
Wright/MVG – Under 7.5 180s – 6/5 Bwin 2pts
